After an early breakfast, we start our trip with a boat cruise along the sparkling streams of the Mighty Mekong River. Our destination: the Cai Rang floating market, otherwise known as the biggest and most famous floating market in the Mekong Delta. Sail by hundreds of boats packed with mango, bananas, papaya and pineapple for selling, buying and exchanging. We then disembark and visit the beautiful old Binh Thuy house. If you’re into architecture, this 17th-century French style house reflects a brilliant combination of East meets West.
We head back to Saigon in the afternoon, but not before we stop by Vinh Trang Pagoda, an ancient southern architectural gem. The pagoda is located in My Phong Commune, 3km from the city centre and was built in 1849 by a Buddhist monk named Hue Dang using funds collected from practitioners. The religious site was seriously damaged by French colonists in 1861 and a severe storm in 1904. On both occasions, practitioners restored the pagoda to its original splendor.
